Otres Village – Sihanoukville
Downtown Otres Village……
The Sihanoukville area pushed our adventurous tolerance a bit. Not for the faint of heart. It is exactly what rural third world countries are known for: extreme poverty and garbage everywhere. It’s a young backpacker’s haven for 24/7 partying, cheap booze, and lodging. Not so much for those not into the party scene.
We stayed on the outskirts of Sihanoukville in a small village called Otres. Away from most of the craziness and with a beautiful beach.
You may be asking why would we choose to visit here? Good question. We like to mix it up. We don’t want to experience only the big cities and tourist attractions. So we decided to come and check out this part of Cambodia.
A little bit of Italy in Cambodia. The Heart of Venice is owned and operated by a very nice couple, Mauro and Giovanna (from Venice). The bungalows and property are a nice place to relax, enjoy the pool and hammocks. There is an on-site restaurant that serves delicious Italian food.
Super tuk-tuks are only found around Sihanoukville. The conversion is from an older Toyota Camry car, removing the roof and the trunk lid. Then the back half of a regular tuk-tuk is welded on top.
Our favorite restaurant was on a platform deck overlooking the lake-side of Otres. Great food and ice cold beer.
This is mid-morning so it’s hard to believe this is full of people at night.
